The North-West Advisory Board was established in 1996 to provide advice to the University about the higher education needs of the north-west community. The terms of reference for the Board are:
- To provide advice to the Vice-Chancellor about the provision of higher education programs in the North-West of Tasmania.
- To provide advice to the University in the development of its North-West Strategic Plan with regard to the development of long term strategies for raising the higher education participation rate in the region.
- To facilitate input and support for the University's courses and other activities in the region from the North-West community, including business, industry and local government groups.
